Oriel College – Rhodes Building extension

Extension to the Rhodes Building (Marcus Beale Architects, 2014)

A new floor of accommodation has been added to the top of this listed High Street building (Basil Champneys, 1911), an interesting copper roof and new windows just visible at street level between the existing gables. Like many Oxford college projects, this work has found an innovative way to combine old and new, which the architects boldly describe as “fresh history”. The architects also prepared a masterplan for the college, and with their sister firm Stowe and Beale a conservation and management plan.
